My Favorite Revell, Monogram and Aurora Model Kits
by admin on Jan.13, 2010, under Toys and Hobbies

There was a time when life was simple. Maybe not as comfortable and maybe not as exciting but definitely simpler. Saving my money for weeks in order to go for a trip to our local hobbyshop and drool over which model to buy. Maybe a RevellĀ hot rod or an AMTĀ tank or that Aurora model of the monster Frankenstien.
Life has generally got more comfortable and convenient over the years. But also more complicated. After getting into much more expensive hobbies as an adult and building much more detailed models I find a comfort in returning to my favorite models from when I was a kid.
Maybe they are not as technically challenging but they have a real quality and there own unique challenges. It seemed we had fewer choices and yet I never noticed. Revell, AMT, and Monogram seemed to have everything I needed. If they didn’t have it Hobby World certainly did and I would read and make extensive wish lists of all the things I was going to buy someday.
There are still great model kits being made and the old kits are still around online but now it is hard to want to build one when the minute I unwrap it the value is mostly gone…but now I look at it kind of like opening a rare bottle of scotch or a great vintage wine. I set it on the shelf for the right occasion and enjoy the whole process just like enjoying that Louis the XIIIth bottle of Cognac.
Take a look at this video and you can see how these plastic kits were inspired!
